Record Keeping and Recognition of Blessings

"Get a notebook, my young folks, a journal that will last through all time, and maybe the angels may quote from it for eternity. Begin today and write in it your goings and comings, your deepest thoughts, your achievements and your failures, your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your testimonies” (New Era, Oct. 1975, 5).

—President Spencer W. Kimball (1895–1985)

We read the above quote in our Family Home Evening tonight and our family has decided to make Tuesday afternoons "Journal Day" wherein Hayley and Nathan will have time to jot down things they remember about their week. We have hopes that this goes well.

Blessed* with an Unexpected Outing - a study in perception differences:

Dave's Version:
On my way home from work, I got a call from Emily - once again, our damsel in distress - who locked her keys in her car. I couldn't help noting how, just like last week when her tire spontaneously flattened in the library parking lot, Emily often manages to be blessed to have breakdowns in the most advantageous settings. It was a fine day*, she happened to have the stroller, her wallet, & her phone. She was just down the street* from a store she needed to visit to get Nathan a new pair of shoes. So she and the kids trekked merrily* down the block, stopped in for a quick dinner on the way, and did a little bargain hunting while they awaited my arrival with the other set of keys. Emily gets pioneer points for making the most of it.

Emily's Corrections:
*..."merrily" is NOT a word to describe how we walked down a very busy street in the hot sun for more than a mile. Nathan stopped far too often to pick up rocks and play in the dirt, and they were whining almost the entire time about how hungry, hot and tired they were. We ate dinner at McDonald's, while still contacting Dave so he could rescue us. And we did manage to buy Nathan some new shoes in Fred Meyer just as Dave arrived.
