Shortly after moving here, I was out weeding the garden my eye caught the glimpse of first one wasp and then another flying down and entering a tiny hole in the ground. When I sprayed the hole with insect repellent (all I had at the time), I leaned down and could hear the ground buzzing. There was a hive of burrowing wasps under our steps!! After a lot of experimental extermination attempts--of high risk and adventure--I dug it out and examined it.
