Mazda Marches On
The car has returned. Our Mazda needed a new engine. Fortunately, it was still under an extended warranty we bought when we purchased the car. Of course, they only covered part of the cost. So it was still expensive, and we were without the car for a total of about two weeks. Needless to say, Emily is very happy to have the van to herself once more.
Book Club Happenings
Emily went to book club this week. The read A Painted House by John Grisham. It is different from his well-known legal thrillers. They all liked it and want a sequel to tie up a lot of loose ends . . .

Impromptu Opera and Cookie Queries
On an outing with Grandma and Grandpa on Presidents' Day, Nathan started singing a song about not needing his coat because it was so warm outside (compared to the 10 degree days we have had so many of lately). It was remarkably operatic and very entertaining. (Nathan and Hayley often break into song, making up words and tune as they go. One of these days, we'll get it on video.) He then asked, out of the blue, "Why do people always make cookies?" Emily asked him why he thought people made cookies, and he said, "because you put frosting on them and eat them!" Obviously.

Count Your Valentines Party Blessings
Hayley had her valentines party a week late because of a snow day and parent teacher conferences. She had all of her valentines ready the day before her party, and the snow day was NOT welcome. So on Tuesday, she finally got to go back to school. She handed out all of her valentines and received little gifts and valentines from her classmates and teachers. Emily, Nathan and Matthew joined the fun for the last half hour. There are several autistic children in her class (for whom she is a "peer model"), and it is humbling to see the parents of these children and imagine how hard parenting must be for them.

Four Front Teeth for the Little Cruizer
Matthew is grinding his four front teeth together. He is crawling all over and getting into everything. He is very happy and cute.
